Unmarried women voted Democrat in the 2022 Midterm elections by a significant margin, according to exit poll data. Compared to married individuals favoring GOP candidates this year, a CNN exit poll of 18,571 total respondents found 68% of single women marked their ballots for Democratic politicians – a 37-point margin over the Republican Party. “One of the fascinating things about our ongoing political realignment is the massive political incentive Democrats have to keep women unmarried,” tweeted political commentator Mollie Hemmingway.

World Population Milestone:

Earth’s population will reach 8 billion people, according to projections from the United Nations. The number is three times the population in 1950 and eight times that of the early 1800s. The 200 years since the Industrial Revolution began have seen a massive population explosion due to a reduction in child mortality and an increase in life expectancy. Improvements in food production, sanitation, and medicine – as well as widespread access to household items like refrigerators and ammonia – have drastically reduced hunger and disease globally. Annual population growth peaked at just over 2% in the early 1960s and has since declined to under 1% amid a decrease in fertility rates. By the end of this century, total annual deaths are expected to surpass births, likely resulting in a decline in population. Overall, demographers estimate almost 120 billion people have lived on Earth.

Billionaire Ken Griffin slammed woke ideology at schools across the U.S. as “crushing” for children – and griped that his own family has been caught in the mess. “My children went to a phenomenal school in Chicago … but their indoctrination in woke ideology was crushing,” Griffin said in a conversation with Miami Mayor Francis Suarez that was hosted by The Economic Club of Miami. Chain-Smoking Grandpa Runs Marathon In 3.5 Hours:

A Chinese grandpa redefined smoking the competition after running an entire marathon in just 3.5 hours while puffing away on cigarettes. Images of the chain-smoking athlete are lighting up Weibo – the Chinese social media platform – as fans praise his respiratory fortitude. The 50-year-old runner, known as Uncle Chen, accomplished the breath-taking feat at the Xin’anjiang Marathon in Jiande, running the entire 26.2 miles while either smoking or lighting up a cig. Smoking might seem like it would be at odds with long-distance running. However, the tobacco-loving grandpa reportedly managed to complete the event in an impressive 3 hours, 28 minutes and 45 seconds – a “good” marathon time, according to the Marathon Handbook. As a result, Uncle Chen placed 574th out of around 1,500 runners, as seen in a certificate posted on Weibo.

Convicted Murderer On Parole Tries To Kidnap Girl, 8, In NYC:

A convicted murderer released on parole less than three months ago tried to kidnap an 8-year-old girl in front of her dad on a Bronx street this week, cops said. Juan Rivera, 52 – who was only released from state prison in late August – grabbed the girl as she walked with her father at Fox Street and St. John Avenue in the Woodstock neighborhood around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said. Rivera “physically restrained” the child as he walked with her along the sidewalk, cops said. The girl’s dad stepped in and managed to wrestle his daughter out of the fiend’s clutches, police said. NYPD officers who happened to be driving by at the time arrested Rivera, cops said.

** Nary a red wave to be found: On Tuesday night [November 8], all across the country, reporters took out their beautiful pre-written takes on crime and inflation and lit them on fire. Because it turned out that even though Americans are indeed sick of the crime, sick of the inflation and sick of Joe Biden, there’s something they’re sick of even more: a Trumpist Republican party.

** A bloodbath in Silicon Valley: Facebook (aka Meta) is cutting 11,000 workers – roughly 13% of its workforce. Redfin and Salesforce are also slimming down. At Twitter, Musk not only laid off workers, but he eliminated the “Days of Rest,” the employees’ monthly paid mental health days (how could he). Amazon is on a hiring freeze as it becomes the first public company in history to lose a trillion dollars in value. A correction for big tech isn’t all bad, though. A lot of people at these bloated Silicon Valley behemoths are doing fake jobs (“rest and vest,” is the line at Google), and with that free time comes time to do annoying things that have nothing to do with Facebook’s bottom line, like attempting to manipulate American culture and algorithmically decide elections. Also: People should get out of the nap pods and start companies. There’s a semi-famous quote about modern Silicon Valley that I think of a lot, said by a data scientist Jeff Hammerbacher: “The best minds of my generation are thinking about how to make people click ads. That sucks.” It does. As someone now in the business of a small business, I highly recommend it. New business formation, which slumped after a 40-year decline, is on the rise again, and those businesses might be able to actually compete for talent now that the unlimited poke bowl party is over.

The eye-boggling irony of this absurdly disingenuous statement wouldn’t have been lost on America’s ice cream vendors who are suffering a terrible year as the price of making it has soared by 13%, driven largely by higher milk costs caused by higher dairy farming costs. And what’s behind those higher dairy farming costs? Inflation. The worst inflation, at 8.2%, for 40 years. —- Piers Morgan

** It’s essential to prevent banks from failing en masse when their loans start going bad. That was well established by the three American economists, including the former Federal Reserve chair Ben Bernanke, who shared this year’s Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. But you know what’s equally essential? Preventing banks from getting into this predicament in the first place. Regulators have become very good at the first mission, not so good at the second. Banks and other financial institutions keep doing dumb things that put the economy and taxpayers at risk. The latest example is in Britain, where a sharp rise in interest rates wrought havoc on pension funds because of their poorly conceived bets on interest rate derivatives. Catalytic Converter Theft Surges As Precious Metals Attract Criminal Groups:

Police around the country are using gumshoe detective work to break up sophisticated rings that steal catalytic converters, though many fear that they aren’t making a dent in a crime wave triggered by pricey precious metals. Catalytic converters, cylindrical hunks of metal within the exhaust system of most cars and trucks, transform harmful gases into less-harmful ones using precious metals including rhodium, palladium and platinum. Some vehicles, such as Toyota Prius models, large pickups and delivery trucks, are often targeted by thieves because their catalytic converters contain a lot of the metals. Criminals use high-speed jacks and battery-operated saws to steal the devices in less than a minute, according to police.
