Located in Liberty County, Texas near the small town of Plum Grove, the Colony Ridge development is a sprawling community that, based on an analysis of publicly available information, is now over 60 square miles and nearly the size of the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. Its population is estimated to be anywhere between 50,000 to 75,000, and it is growing rapidly thanks to a marketing plan targeted at Texas’ hispanic population.
** Dealers of new cars are “far more positive about the current market” than dealers of used cars, according to the latest quarterly survey by Cox Automotive, which provides services and software to auto dealers. The sentiment index of new-vehicle dealers rose a point to 57 in the current quarter, while the index for used-vehicle dealers dropped a point to 41. Any figure below 50 means more dealers see the current market as weak than see it as strong. High interest rates on auto loans, among other factors, are felt more acutely by buyers of used vehicles.
** In the U.S., the supply of laxatives is a rising concern, with drugstores frequently having empty shelves. Although TikTok’s #GutTok has had over 1.1 billion views, a rise in youth popularity is more likely the No. 2 factor (behind increasing demand from an elderly population).
** Following a cyberattack in August, Clorox is having trouble getting its production operations back up and running. As a result, several of Clorox’s products will be in low supply for an unknown period of time, the company claims.
** New York is in a state of decline – with a worsening quality of life tied to sky high costs of housing, rampant crime and an unrelenting migrant crisis, according to a new poll. Fifty-seven percent of 804 registered voters who participated in the Siena College Poll said the quality of life in the Empire State is getting worse, while 27% said it was the same and just 14% said it was better. “A huge majority of Republicans, a large majority of independents and a plurality of Democrats all say the quality of life in New York is getting worse,” said Siena College poster Steven Greenberg said.

Early Lab Tests Suggest New COVID-19 Variant May Be Less Contagious And Less Immune-Evasive Than Feared:
Scientists around the world are fast-tracking lab experiments to try to understand the highly mutated BA.2.86 variant of the virus that causes COVID-19. Results just beginning to emerge are offering some reassurance, experts say. Researchers in China, Sweden and the United States have reported results from lab tests using blood samples from both mice and humans. They found that BA.2.86 is less immune-evasive and less contagious than originally feared. BA.2.86, also known by the nickname Pirola, has spread to at least 11 countries, including the U.S. “My friends, this is not the second coming of Omicron. If it were, it is safe to say we would know by now,” Dr. Bill Hanage, an epidemiologist who is co-director of Harvard University’s Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics, said in a social media post.

** In a phenomenon that continues to grow every year, the number of mass shootings in the United States reached 501. The latest data, as compiled by the Gun Violence Archive, show the current state of gun violence in America. The 500th mass shooting incident of 2023 unfolded in Denver, Colorado, where five individuals were wounded.
** People or states should take Disney’s appeasement to ESG scores, and as a result, their falling stock price, as a warning not to invest, member of the Senate Budget Committee Mike Braun, R-Ind., said. Since last year, Disney’s stock has fallen. When it comes to “woke” investing, Braun said that’s “called environmental, social and governance.” The senator’s comment refers to ESG scores, which calculate how ethically a company conducts itself arbitrarily.
** Illegal crossings along the Southern border have reached levels not seen for several months, straining government resources and taxing some local communities where large numbers of migrants have been released from federal custody. Such high numbers haven’t been seen since a surge in early May brought the daily number to nearly 10,000, and they are far higher than in mid-April, when there were about 4,900 illegal crossings a day.

** The razor manufacturing company Braun is being slammed for a “shockingly immoral” promo featuring a shirtless woman who identifies as transgender and has visible mastectomy scars. The Telegraph reported on Monday that the U.K. branch of the grooming company has featured a woman identifying as a man to model the company’s Series X hybrid trimmers. The female model appears to have undergone a double mastectomy, a procedure frequently done when women who identify as men have their breasts removed to look less feminine.
** San Francisco, which announced support for defunding the police after the death of George Floyd, is now trying to recruit cops – from Texas. In July 2020, Mayor London Breed announced that $120 million would be cut from the police and sheriff’s departments. “Reforming our criminal justice system must go hand-in-hand with policy changes and budget investments to make our city more equitable,” she said. “By redirecting funding from law enforcement agencies back into the African American community, we are putting our words into action, and we are doing it by listening to a community that for too long has been unheard and underserved.”
