A school board member in Virginia took his oath of office with his hand not on a Bible, but on a stack of books containing graphic depictions of gay sex. Karl Frisch, who will become chairman of the Fairfax County School Board, swapped the Bible for books including “Lawn Boy,” “Gender Queer,” and “Flamer.” His male partner held the books as he placed his left hand on them and his right hand in the air.

Terror Plot In Germany:
European officials said they had detained four men – three in Germany and one in the Netherlands – on suspicions of plotting terror attacks on Jewish sites across Europe. The suspects are believed to be members of Hamas – authorities said one person had been tasked with locating a stockpile of weapons that had been secretly stored in the past. Authorities said there was not a direct link with the Israel-Hamas war, as their investigation preceded Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack in southern Israel.

More Disabled People Are Working:
The share of people with disabilities who are employed – 22.9% in November – is hovering around its highest level in Bureau of Labor Statistics records going back to 2008. (The average since June 2008 is 18.8%. The peak was 23% in August.) A continued shortage of labor has made employers more open to hiring disabled people, Bryon Bass, chief executive officer of the Disability Management Employer Coalition, wrote in an email. Long COVID slightly increased the number of working people who are disabled. Also, the COVID pandemic showed that “it absolutely is possible for us to work from home,” said Felicia Nurmsen, managing director for employer services at the National Organization on Disability. The option to work from home attracts some disabled people who otherwise might not seek employment.
